Bâgé-le-Châtel is a common French, located in the department of the Ain and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Bâgé-le-Châtel is administratively attached to the Canton of Bâgé-le-Châtel (of which it is the Chef-lieu, and to the Arrondissement of Borough-in-Bresse. The canton gathers 10 communes and 13  396 inhabitants.

History

old capital of the BRESSE. In 1272, the BRESSE becomes Savoyard when Sibylle of BAGE, only heiress of the throne brings the Bresse in dowry at the time of her marriage with Amédé of SAVOY. (Amédé V the large one). BOROUGH (today BOURG-EN-BRESSE), also strengthened bastion of 3400 inhabitants, becomes capital of the Bresse, condemning the development of Bâgé which will remain village when Bourg leaves its walls to become the town of 50.000 hab which it is today!

Old borough trading which drained the populations of the campaigns neighborhood, Bagé-le-chatel saw declining its trade in the middle of the twentieth century to become a little dormitory town of the close town of Mâcon (the Saone and the Loire), distant from only 10 kms; Remain a beautiful typical village by its circular and concentric architecture of medieval origin, which lets admire some remainders of ramparts and two more turns of red brick guet! Doctor's office, pharmacy, cabinet of nurse, bakery, baker's and confectioner's shop, florist, mini-market, 2 butcheries, 3 hairdressing salons, shop of esthétitienne, driving school, tobacco-newspapers, gourmet restaurant, bar-brewery ensuring finely of the day, bar-pizzeria, coffee-lotto-tobacco, store and TV-domestic workshop… make of this small atypical borough a charming village where it makes good things in life!
