Báthory (family)

The Báthory (or Báthori) were a princely family Hungarian having exerted a great influence in Central Europe (period: 1480 - 1680). It was divided into two branches Báthory de Somlyo and Báthory of Ecsed.

  • Etienne Báthory , 1477 - 1534, the father. Governor or voïvode of Transylvania
  • Etienne Ier ('' Stefan '') Báthory , 1533 - the 1586, youngest wire of the precedent Etienne Báthory. Prince de Transylvanie, then king of Poland
  • Christophe Báthory , 1530 - 1581, older brother of Stefan I of Poland. Voïvode of Transylvania.
  • Sigismond Ier Báthory , 1572 - 1613, wire of Christophe. Prince de Transylvanie.
  • Andre Cardinal Báthory , cousin of Sigismond. Prince de Transylvanie.
  • Boldizsar Báthory , his/her brother voïvode of Transylvania in 1594
  • Gabriel Báthory , 1589 - 1613, a nephew of the cardinal Andre. Prince de Transylvanie.
  • the countess Erzsébet Báthory , August 7th 1560 - August 21st 1614, niece of king de Pologne Stephen Báthory. It was called " the bloody lady " ; his/her cousin, the count Gyorgy Thurso put an end to his exactions.
  • Sophia Báthory , a niece of Gabriel Báthory, married to Georges II Rákóczy, which unified the two families. She promoted the orthodoxe Église on her grounds.
