Azcapotzalco

Azcapotzalco ( " place of the fourmis" in Nahuatl) is one of 16 divisions of the Mexican federal district of Mexico City.

History

The town of Azcapotzalco was founded by the Tépanèques. She knew her golden age at the 14th century. The Aztec empire was then dependant on this city-State, as well as the towns of Chalco, Cuantitlan and Colhuacan. The takeover on the Aztèques started under the reign of Tezozomochtli. Maxclatl succeeded Tezozomoc but lost the city and the life vis-a-vis the Triple Aztec alliance formed by the towns of Tlacopan, Texcoco and Tenochtitlan.
