Azay-on-Indre is a common French of the department of Indre-et-Loire, in the area Center.

Its inhabitants is called Azéens, Azéennes.

Geography

Azay on Indre is located at the confluence of the Indre and the Indrois.

History

To the XIe century the field of Azay was given by Hyvisus Cabruns to the abbey of Noyers where this man finishes his life. At the end of the XIIe century, a chavalier, Guillaume d' Azay acquired Azay. The village was then named Azay-the-Weak and became Azay-le-Chadieu at the time in June 1586 it became the stronghold of Amblard de Chadieu. Right before the French revolution, Fayette had large grounds in Folaine, on the current territory of Azay-on-Indre.
