Azadegan
Azadegan , located in Iran, is vast a oil Gisement discovered in 1999. The Prospect was known for a long time and had not been drilled, on the one hand because it was located at a few kilometers only Iraqi border , and on the other hand because Iran, with its production limited by the quotas of OPEC, hardly did not need new layers. The old layers having severely declined, this situation changed.
The reserves of Azadegan were initially evaluated with: 26 Gbbls in the first Iranian official statements, figure which would do of this layer one of largest of the world. Nevertheless, the additional details disseminated thereafter showed that this figure referred to the quantity of oil present in the layer, and not with the recoverable fraction, which would range between 3 and: 7 Gbbls. The rate of recovery awaited thus seems rather low (from 10 to 30%), which would be explained by the geological complexity of the layer. This one would be divided besides into two tanks, of which one would contain heavy oil.
The high estimate of the first official statements would be explained by the political motivations of Iran for an effect of advertisement. Even with 3 Gbbls, Azadegan has remained one of largest layers the discovered for 20 years.
The layer had initially been allotted to the Japanese National Oil Company , which was to have of it the control of work and a participation of 75%. The crisis related to the Iranian Nuclear program called into question the signed agreements. The Japanese share from now on is reduced to 10%, and the layer would be developed by Iranian companies. The production would be of 120 kbbls/day initially, to be then increased until 400 kbbls /j.
