The commune is located in the Vallée of Arberoue.

History

March 18th, 1450, the Labourd returned to the French crown, after the signature of the peace treaty to the castle of Belzunce with Ayherre, marking the end of the English influence in the area. This day the representatives of Labourd made their tender, and with the help of the payment of 2000 ecus gold, guaranteed by the retention of ten hostages, they could preserve their privileges.

The activity of the commune is mainly agricole.
The company Lauak (industries of aeronautics and space) is installed in the artisanal zone of Ayherre.
The mill of Huhagun on the Merry one, dating from the XIXe century, was transformed into hydroelectric station.
