Toponymy

The toponym Aydius is attested under its current form since 1385 (census), then in 1590 ( lo temple of Feels Martin d' Aydius ) and at the 18th century (chart of Cassini).

History

Prehistory

  • Rock shelter dating from the Protohistoire, called shelter Gandon-Lassus' .

The Middle Ages

Paul Raymond note which the commune counted a laic abbey, vassal of the Viscount of Béarn.
In 1385, one counted 30 fires there. Aydius depended on the Bailliage of Winder.

  • baths of Chichit, XIXe century.
Closed down since 1944, these baths of small capacity were fed by a source whose ferruginous water, which could also be drunk, relieved rheumatisms. The ruins of this establishment are on Right Bank of the gave of Aydius.
