Toponymy
The toponym Aydius is attested under its current form since 1385 (census), then in 1590 ( lo temple of Feels Martin d' Aydius ) and at the 18th century (chart of Cassini).

Prehistory
- Rock shelter dating from the Protohistoire, called shelter Gandon-Lassus' .
The Middle Ages
Paul Raymond note which the commune counted a laic abbey, vassal of the Viscount of Béarn.In 1385, one counted 30 fires there. Aydius depended on the Bailliage of Winder.
