Aydat
Aydat is a common French, located in the department of the Puy-de-Dôme and the area of Auvergne. Aydat belongs to the urban surface of Clermont-Ferrand.
Geography
The commune is consisted of the villages of Aydat, Ponteix, of Rusted-Low, Rusted-High, of Cassière, Garandie, Saint-Julien, Veyreras, Verneuge, Fontclairant, Prades, Sauteyras, the Batch, Phialeix, the Farmhouse and of Fohet.
One finds on the territory of the commune a certain number of volcanos of the Chaîne of the puys:

The territory of the commune is crossed by Cheire d' Aydat, run Basalte resulting from the puys of the Vache and Lassolas. This long casting (14 km) created a natural stopping which caused the formation of two lakes which is on the commune: Lake Aydat (837 m) and the Lake of Cassière (861 m).
The commune is adherent Regional natural park of the Volcanos of Auvergne. Whose seat is located at the castle of Montlosier on the territory of the commune
History
The name of Aydat under the Roman Empire was Avitacum, of the name of the Roman Emperor Avitus.Sidoine Apollinaire had there a field which it mentions in his writings.

Places and monuments
- the Lake Aydat: It extends on 65 ha for a 15 meters depth. The lake accommodates a nautical base.
- the Lake of Cassière: It is known for its important and unexplained variations of its level top. From a depth of approximately 7 meters, its level goes down sometimes, on a scale of several months even years, until a quasi total draining. It was the case between the two world wars and more recently with the beginning of the year 90.
These two lakes were formed naturally after the eruption approximately 8.000 years ago of the Puy of the Cow and the Puy de Lassolas and of lava flow: the cheire of Aydat, of 14 km which resulted from it. Casting with half-compartment the bed of Veyre, flow Allier.
