Awenne
Awenne (in Walloon Nåwinne ) is a section of the Belgian city of Saint-Hubert located in Walloon region in the Province of Luxembourg.
It was a commune with whole share before the fusion of the communes of 1977.
Commune of the department of Sambre-and-Meuse under the French mode, it was transferred to the province from Luxembourg after 1839. Mirwart belonged to Awenne of 1823 to 1877.
Etymology
The name of Awenne finds its origin in the Walloon name Nauwinne .
History
About 1900, Awenne was an important center of industry sabotière in province of Luxembourg. Industry sabotière would have been established in the area by two French.
The Walloon writer Joseph Calozet was born in Awenne the December 20th 1883 and died there the May 3rd 1968.
