Avusy

Avusy is a common Suisse of the Canton of Geneva. It consists of 4 villages: Athenaz, Avusy, Champlong and Sézegnin. Moreover, it also counts some dwellings in the hamlet of Eaumorte.

History

June 20th, 1302, the name dAvusy appears for the first time, at the time of the division of the grounds located between Mount-of-Sion, Salève and the Rhone.

After the treated of Turin, in 1754, Avusy remains Savoyard. The villages of Avusy, Athenaz and Sézegnin are then authorized to meet in only one parish.

In 1815, Geneva become Swiss receives six communes of the France and 14 communes of the Sardinia, of which Avusy. At this point in time the commune of Avusy-Laconnex-Soral is contituée. People of Avusy will obtain separation and will form the current commune in 1848.

Armorial bearings

“Of gold to the chequered band of two cars of money and mouths”.

There are fourteen squares: 7 white and 7 reds.

They were adopted in 1924. They were taken again weapons of the family of the Low register, lords of the places. One made them however undergo a light modification, from where them current presentation.

Geography

The commune of Avusy counts 1259 inhabitants (to the 10.01.06), its territory covers 518 hectares and its culminating point is to 430 Mr.

Located close to the western point of Switzerland, Avusy is surrounded by Chancy, Avully, Cartigny, Laconnex and Soral. In the south, it makes border with the French department of the Haute-Savoie on several kilometers. Historically, the commune of Avusy is dedicated to agriculture. Today still it remains attached to this vocation
