Avroy

District of the town of Liege, on left bank of the Meuse.

The word Avroy (in Walloon: Avreû ) comes from Latin arboretum indicating a place covered with trees . It was the name given to the forest which recovered the hill of Cointe and went down to the edge from the Meuse.

The district is organized around the boulevard of Avroy, gained on an arm of the Meuse between 1831 and 1835. In the beginning place of walks, it is now a large road artery, as well for cars as for the buses which profit there from an exclusive right of way.

The terraces of Avroy, residential district, go back to 1880, it occupies the site of the old quay commercial. The public garden between the avenue Rogier and the boulevard of Avroy shelters a museum of differentiated arts and accommodates every year the fair of October.
