Avraham Burg

Avraham Burg (born the January 19th 1955 in Jerusalem) is public figure and Israeli politician currently without mandate.

He is the son of Yosef Shlomo Burg, member of the national religious Party and minister in several Israeli governments until his death in 1980. He makes his service in a brigade parachutist of Tsahal with the rank of lieutenant then studies Social sciences with the Hebraic Université of Jerusalem.

Burg militates then in Shalom Archav and is wounded by a grenade at the time of a manifestation of the organization in Jerusalem during which Emil Grunzweig is killed. It is defined as " nobody who will never give up seeking avid neighbors of peace, in order to save with them the world which is to us commun".

In 1985, it is named to advise Prime Minister Shimon Peres and, in 1988, is elected with the Knesset on the list of the workers party.

In 1995, he resigns of Knesset following his nomination as President of the Jewish Agence and the world Organization Zionist. In its new functions, it deals with the reappropriation of the Jewish goods despoiled at the time of the Shoah.

In 1999, it turns over to the political life, as President of Knesset; post that it occupies until August 2003. For this reason, it will hold, at 44 years, the role of President making function from July 12th to August 1st, 2000.

In 2001, it is presented to the presidency of the workers party but loses.

In September 2003, Burg creates sensation with the publication in the daily newspaper Yediot Aharonot of an article entitled: " the revolution Zionist died " and reproduced in the international press.

In 2004, it withdraws continuous public life but to militate and still gives conferences throughout the world.

It has French nationality today and made a success of its reconversion as a business man.

In a maintenance published in June 2007 in Haaretz, Burg calls with the abolition of the Loi of the return and declares that “the definition of Israel as a Jewish State leads to its loss. A Jewish State is explosive. It is dynamite” , and with the question “You are a keen europeist. You live in Nataf frontier Israeli village of the West Bank, but your spirit is in Brussels. You are the prophet of Brussels. ” , it answered: “For me, the construction of the European Union, it is the biblical Utopia in its quintessence. I do not know that how long will hold, but the idea is incredibly Jewish. ”
