Avital Ronell

Avital Ronell is a Critique arts person, Philosophe, Professor, American Féministe. It is currently professor of comparative literature, German and English to the Université of New York. It is especially known in the United States to be representing it American of the “French theory” (Déconstruction).

Biography

Ronell was born with Prague diplomatic parents and was an artist of performance before entering to the university. She studied with Jacob Taubes at the Institute of Herméneutic of Berlin, obtained her doctorate at the University of Princeton in 1979, and continued then her studies with Jacques Derrida and Helene Cixous in Paris. She joined the faculty of comparative literature with the Berkeley University then with that of New York.

The work of Ronell is related to work of philosophers, of which in particular Derrida, Nietzsche, Heidegger, Levinas, Blanchot, Lacoue-Labarthe and Nancy.

In its works, she questions and studies the subject of the established questions, focusing herself on all these elements which “move away from the immediate promises from transparency or significance”, and tracks what she calls “unconscious the rhetoric of a text”. The objects, prétexes of its work of Déconstruction, were in particular technology, the War of the Golf, the AIDS, the Opera, the telephone of Heidegger, the dependence and stupidity.
