Avenue de New-York
The which occurred of New York is the name of a public highway located at Paris, 16th district.
History
It is into 1918 that the Quai Debilly was famous Avenue of Tokio , of the name of the capital of the Japan whose C-W communication Tokio was the standard at the beginning of the century, whereas today under the influence of the methods of romanisation of Japanese, one writes more readily Tōkyō or Tokyo .
The February 26th 1945, by Local by-law, the Avenue of Tokio takes the name of Avenue of New York.
The street names often evolve/move according to the political situation. Let us recall that the Japan was an ally of the France during the Great War: it was caught some with the German possessions located in the Far East. During the Second world war this same Japan was the ally of the Germany Nazi: one thus replaced the capital of the enemy country by the most populated city (New York) of the the United States which had just released the France.
Moreover, in 1964, the Quai of Passy, which prolongs the Avenue of New York downstream from the Seine, took the name of Avenue of the President-Kennedy who refers to him also to the the United States.
With the lower part of this old Debilly Quay, the bank of the the Seine always constitutes the Port Debilly and there exists also a Passerelle Debilly making it possible to the pedestrians to cross the river.
The Palate of Tokyo, built for the exposure of 1937, holds its name of the avenue of Tokio; the influence of the Palate is limited by this avenue of New York on the side of the the Seine. It is in doubt because of a certain conservatism of Parisian that the Palais of Tokyo (which also had to bear the name of Palate of Tokio ), built for the exposure of 1937 and named according to the avenue of Tokio, kept its name after 1945.
The avenue of New York constitutes an element of the Voie Georges-Pompidou. Of this fact this avenue became a kind of urban Autoroute to open sky into full XVI {{E}} district.
