Avenue de Messidor

L' which occurred of Messidor (in Dutch: Messidorlaan ) is a Avenue of Brussels of the common of Uccle which goes from the Chaussée of Alsemberg to the Rond-point Winston Churchill while passing by the Avenue Brugmann. It also passes by the Avenue Coghen, the Rue of Glaieuls, the Rue of Boetendael, the Rue of Balkans, the Rue Emile Lecomte, the Rue of Reciprocity, the Avenue of Ormeaux and the Avenue of the Burgomaster Jean Herinckx.

This avenue bears the name of the tenth month of the republican Calendrier French. It corresponded, except for a few days (according to the year), at the period going of the June 19th to the July 18th of the Gregorian Calendrier. It drew its name “ from the aspect of the ears ondoyants and the harvests gilded which cover the fields of June in July ”, according to the terms of the report/ratio presented to the national Convention the 3 brumaire year II (October 24th 1793) by Fabre d' Églantine, in the name of the “ charged commission of the clothes industry of the calendar ”.
