The Avenida President Roque Sáenz Peña or Diagonal Norte ( Diagonal North ) is a large artery of the district of San Nicolás of the town of Buenos Aires, capital of the Argentine. It has a south-eastern/north-western orientation, which makes that it crosses in diagonal a whole series of square blocks of houses (called here manzanas ) and of which the general plan in checkerwork of the center from Buenos Aires wants that the sides have, either an orientation East-West (of which principal avenues or avenidas ), or North-South (streets or holds in Spanish).

It received its name in the honor of the president Roque Sáenz Peña, who exerted the power during four years, of 1910 with 1914, and which establishes the vote for all without frauds, thanks to the secret and obligatory vote, like with the electoral register.

Course

Avenida President Roque Sáenz Peña occurs with the north-western corner of the Plaza of Mayo (i.e. with the corner of the Avenida Rivadavia and the street San Martín), just in the north of the government of the city and moves in right-hand side line towards the North-West. It crosses in diagonal successively the avenidas Bartolomé Miter , President General Juan Domingo Perón and Sarmiento , as well as the streets Calle Florida , Maipu , Esmeralda , Suipacha and Carabelas , before arriving at the enormous crossroads consisted the avenues Avenida 9 of julio and Avenida Corrientes, where is the Obélisque of Buenos Aires, the Plaza of República. Always in diagonal and straight line, it crosses this crossroads and continuous to the following crossing, between the Calle Lavalle and the Calle Libertad , i.e. with the Plaza Lavalle, where in particular the district of the courts is.

Subway

During all its way it is skirted in underground by the line of subway línea, which has there 2 stations (stations Catedral and 9 of julio ). The línea has there also a station: Diagonal Norte .
