Avchd

AVCHD (Video Advanced codec High Definition: Advanced video codec in high-definition) is a new standard of video recording high-definition developped at the point by Sony and Panasonic. It can be used on varied supports: Recordable DVD of 8 cm, hard drive or memory card (SD or memory stick pro). Intended for the video cameras, it comes in complement from the formats HDV and MiniDV.

The compression of the image is carried out by using the algorithm encoding MPEG4 H264 (also named MPEG-4 AVC) which ensures of the performances very high the level of the ratio quality - size of file. The sound when with him can be stored with the format AC3 5.1 or in not compressed form 7.1. The unit is encapsulated in a container MPEG-2 TS (stream transport) in the same way that on a DVD.

  • the company Canopus proposes a solution of video assembly supporting this video format like Apple with iMovie 08 '.

  • the installation of the program Cyberlink PowerDVD 7 makes it possible to have a codec AVCHD on its PC. The reading becomes possible then with Media Player or any other application compatible with the codecs directshow.
  • the codecs directshow are also provided by Sony but must be recorded with the hand to become operational.
  • Apple announced the assumption of responsibility of this format by imovie 08 (Mac structured around Intel processors only).
  • the free software Kdenlive supports format AVCHD.
