Auxois

The Auxois (in Latin Alesiensis pagus ) is an old country of France, belonging to the Duché of Burgundy.

It was divided into bailliage principal particular Semur-in-Auxois and bailliages of Avallon, Arnay-the-Duke and Saulieu.

It owes its name with old the Alésia, which was included/understood there. It formed a county which was joined together with the Duché of Burgundy in 1082.

It forms today the districts of Avallon (Yonne) and the south of the district of Montbard (Coast-with Or).
