Auxiliary of child welfare

An auxiliary of child welfare is a person giving of the care the new-born babies or the young children of less than 4 years and which accompanies the young children lasting their trainings. This trade is primarily female (99% of the auxiliaries).

Activities

As it is known as higher the essential activity and which makes this trade and of course to deal with the children. The auxiliary of child welfare is generally under the authority of one (E) male nurse (E) or, failing this, of a doctor.

The auxiliary of child welfare carries out all the basic gestures of a mother with respect to young children. She cannot ensure of the medical care because she is not to in no case Médecin or Infirmier, but she must be able to detect and announce possible therapeutic needs which would have the child and to announce them. The auxiliary of child welfare can work in various establishments thus giving him different missions.

In Halt-nursery, house of children or Crib, the auxiliary of child welfare is responsible for an small group of children, 3 months old to 3 years. It must pay attention to the food and the Hygiène of smallest; she learns how with largest to only eat, to go and ensure the hygiene of elimination (Urine S and saddle S). She will take part and organize also discoveries.

In a Maternity, the auxiliary of child welfare is charged to give to eat with the Nourrisson, to make him its toilet, to change it, equip it, supervise its size and its weight. It will help the parents in their training of the care to give the baby. It must inform the pediatrist if it observes problems at the newborn.

With SME (Maternal protection and infantile) it has a large administrative work and assists the doctor in order to hold up to date the medical files, in addition to the current gestures which are the weighings and measurements of the child when parents come with their (S) child (S) in the center.

Formation

In France

Only the holders of the professional diploma of auxiliary of child welfare can exert this trade. The formation lasts 41 weeks including 17 weeks of theoretical courses (in institute approved by the ministry for health) and 24 weeks of training courses (cribs, nursery…).

the contest

Access : to follow this one year formation, the candidates must succeed in the contest organized each year by the institus. No diploma other than the Brevet of the colleges is necessary to present to the tests admissibility, the whole being to be old at least 17 years at December 31st of the year of the examination. In the facts, the majority of the candidates arise with a level BEP (BEP medical and social careers; BEPA services with the people; CAPE early childhood…), even vat (baccalaureat ST2S mainly). For continuing education, to count 2 or 3 years of experience professional.

Examination : it comprises a writing and an oral examination, the passage of this last being subordinated to the success of the writing. The writing (2 hours) relates to the programme of nutrition, food and biology of the BEP medical and social careers. The oral examination of admission (15/20 minutes) relates to a concerning topic ancillary medical or social field. The holders of the BEP mentioned above and the BEPA services to the people are exempted written test.

Formation : assistance-looking after and auxiliaries of child welfare have 6 months a common formation and 6 identical modules (care, hygiene, regulation, communication, public health, participation in the care and monitoring of the patients…), then 6 modules specific to their formation (for the auxilaire of child welfare: concepts on the child and his environment, pregnancy and birth, child healthy, sick, handicapped…)

After 3 years of experience, the auxiliaries of child welfare can present to the contests IFSI.

In Belgium

Training in two years. The name changes: one does not speak any more an auxiliary of general-purpose child welfare but of auxiliary.
