Auxances

The Auxances or Auxance is a French river, tributary Clain out of left bank, and thus tributary of a tributary of the the Loire, by Clain and the Vienna. It crosses the departments of the Two-Sevres and the Vienna, in area Poitou-Charentes.

The course of Auxances

Auxances takes its source in Two-Sevres, on the level of the Burrow of Saint Martin's day to a few kilometers in the south-east of Parthenay, on the territory of Saint-Martin-of-Fouilloux the and takes from the start the direction of the east. The entirety of its course is directed towards the east. It is thrown in Clain a little downstream (in north) of Poitiers, with Chasseneuil-du-Poitou (Futuroscope). The river bathes in particular Vouillé.

Affluent

Hydrology

Auxances is a fairly abundant river. Its flow was observed during one 38 years period (1968-2005), with Quinçay, locality of the department of the Vienna located little before its confluence with the Clain. Studied surface is of 262 km ², that is to say more than 95% of the totality of the catchment area of the river.

The interannual medium flow or module of the river with Quinçay is of 1,50 m ³ a second.

Auxances presents seasonal fluctuations of medium flow. The high waters are held in winter and at the beginning of spring, and are characterized by average monthly flows oscillating between 1,77 and 3,03 m ³ a second, from December to April included (with a maximum very Net in January and especially in February). From March however, the flow drops gradually to the low waters of summer which take place from July to September included, involving a fall of the monthly flow average energy to the floor of 0,49 m ³ in August, which remains rather consistent. But these monthly averages hide more marked fluctuations over short periods or according to the years.

With the low water levels, the VCN3 can fall until 0,047 m ³ a second (47 liters), which becomes relatively severe for this river. This fact is frequent among the rivers of plain of the catchment area of the Loire (see note).

The risings, as for them, are rather moderated, taking into account the smallness of the catchment area and relative in the majority of the rivers of the basin of the Loire and Vienna in particular. The QIX 2 and QIX 5 are worth respectively 11 and 18 m ³ a second. The QIX 10 or calculated flow of decennial rising is of 23 m ³ a second, the QIX 20 of 27 m ³, while the QIX 50 is assembled to 33 m ³ a second (see note).

The recorded maximum instantaneous flow with Quinçay was of 30 m ³ a second on January 1st, 1995, while the value maximum day laborer was of 22,6 m ³ a second on January 24th of the same year. If one compares the first of these values on a QIX scale of the river, one notes that this rising was intermediate between the risings vicennial and cinquantennale defined by the QIX 20 and QIX 50, and thus intended to repeat on average the every approximately 35-40 years.

Auxances is a moderately abundant river. The Lame of water past in its catchment area is of 181 millimetres annually, which is definitely lower than the overall average of France, and also to the average of the basin of the the Loire (more or less 245 millimetres) and of the Vienna (319 millimetres). It is also lower than the basin of the Clain (233 millimetres). The specific Flow (or Qsp) reached the very average figure of 5,7 liters a second and per square kilometer of basin.
