Autonomous National university of Mexico

The autonomous National university of Mexico (UNAM) is the older second Public university of America after that of Santo Domingo. Throughout its history, particularly during the seven first decades of the 20th century, it made the education of the principal influential people of the world of the Politique, of the writer S, Scientifique S, Engineer S and Philosophe S which contributed to the construction of the country.

The UNAM is the largest university in Latin America, occupying the first position between the universities of Spain, Portugal and Latin America according to The London Times . Another study of the university of Beijing found that the UNAM is the best university in its area and everyone of the Spanish language.

Today, the principal screen of the UNAM is its reform. To preserve its public and free character and to eliminate the large administrative load which was encrusted in its institutions are its priorities.

History

The principal historical precedent of the UNAM is the royal and pontifical Université of Mexico founded in 1552 little time after the Conquête of Mexico by the Spanish colonists .

The UNAM obtained its autonomy in 1929. She moved in 1950 on her new campus of the university residence, in the south of the town of Mexico City. During the Years 1970, it concluded its a great program of expansion during which were created the five seats of the college of sciences and humanities as well as the five multidisciplinary campuses of Acatlán, of Cuautitlán, Aragón, Iztacala and Zaragoza.

In 1968, the UNAM was found in the center of the protests coeds which led to the Massacre of Tlatelolco which occurred on the Plaza of mow Tres Culturas (place of the Three-Cultures).
