Automobile Model making

The automobile model making is the activity of Modélisme which is interested in the reproduction of models of Automobile S.

The activity of the amateurs separates rather clearly in close but disjoined categories:

  • model statics of cars of small size (size of a box of matches or matchbox in English) often called miniature cars where the quality of reproduction goes from the style Jouet to genuine the small-scale Modèle ;
  • static models of cars of big size (around 25cm length), extremely detailed with parts moving or articulated like the doors or the trunk;
  • dynamic model of cars, i.e. been driven with electrical motors or thermal engines and generally radiocontrolled today. For the others they are vehicles guided on a electric road Circuit.

Punctually, one meets bringings together between the automobile model makers and the military amateurs of models which make sometimes an intense use of the automobile models for static exposures of situations or recent conflicts in the form of Diorama S.

The military amateurs of models largely extend the spectrum of the vehicles represented. Beyond the cars strictly speaking, one finds quantity of purely military vehicles (to be started with the tank S and the armored vehicles).

Standardized dimensions

A great number of scales of reproduction are used by the marks, with however a kind of standardization in fact according to the uses:

  • Rare Report/ratio 1/4, scale which is less and less used on track because heavier and less powerful than the 1/5e.

  • Report/ratio 1/5 widespread enough Scale for the radiomodelism on track, been driven for the majority by engine 23cm ³ two times, having on average a weight of approximately 10kg, being able to go until 70km/h. Scale of " pro" , very much used in the car manufacturers (" vrais") to make models of style for example.
  • Report/ratio 1/6 widespread enough Scale for cross-country, conveys been driven by engine between 26cm ³ and 29cm ³ two times
  • Rare Rapport 1/7, used especially in statics
  • Rapport 1/8 Très used tracks some and cross-country radio operator ordered which can model go until 120km/h for the models of competitions on tracks. Motorization quasi exclusively thermal, cubic capacity of 3,5cm3 with 4,6cm3, two times, functioning with the mixture methanol/nitromethane.
  • Rapport a 1/10 very current formula in model radiocontrolled leisures which can go until 100km/h for the models of competitions on tracks. thermal motorization of cubic capacity going of 2,11cm3 with 2,62cm3 (federal category), or electric.
  • electric Rapport 1/12 category especially in tracks 2 driving wheels in propulsion which is reappearing
  • Rapport 1/14 & 1/16 One finds there the excavators, the bulldozers and the radiocontrolled trucks. For some time, certain marks, like the Kyosho Japanese woman, propose car models radiocontrolled on this scale, and try to promote the competitions reserved for this category.
  • Report/ratio 1/18, very much used for static moulded metal models (for example by Solido ), this scale has returned to the mode for a few years in radiocontrolled
  • Rapport 1/24, such as the MiniZ, Iwaver, the Xmod radiocontrolled and on the Circuit 24 or the Scalextric.
  • Report/ratio 1/25, used in particular for the reproductions out of plastic model of American vehicle (Corvette C6-R from Revell for example).
  • Report/ratio 1/30 or 1/32 used on electric road circuits
  • Report/ratio 1/43, standard scale of the static miniature cars Dinky Toy S, Norev, but so radiocontrolled and of electric road Circuit.
  • Report/ratio 1/87, conforms on a railway scale HO to supplement the networks of railway Modélisme. This scale is also used by a whole range of vehicles of electric road circuits recent.

Models

In statics, there exist practically all the types of vehicles.

In radiocontrolled one finds especially:

  • the radiocontrolled trucks relatively little used in France but rather widespread in Germany on the scale 1/16e.
  • cars of track on only tarred track, rapids and with an excellent handling especially in the rooms (smooth-tread tyres or slightly).
  • cross-country cars and particularly buggys, used in competition on ground track with small shock absorbers and various tires.
  • Monster Trucks are used much in trial, they profit from a very important ground clearance and disproportionate wheels.
  • Truggy, crossing of a truck and a buggy.
  • the motor bikes, the quads and the motoneiges, still rare, start to be pointed out in the world of the toy.
