The Grand Prix of Spain 2006 is the 756e race of Formule 1 run since 1950 and the sixth test of the championship 2006 run on the Circuit of Catalonia, in the town of Barcelona in Spain the May 14th 2006. Fernando Alonso benefits from the performances of its Renault to gain its national Grand Prix.
Course of the race
Fernando Alonso (Renault) had announced at the beginning of season that one of its main aims this season, in addition to trying to preserve its championship of the world, was to impose itself for the first time on residence, in its national Grand Prix, the Grand Prix of Spain. Contract filled for the Spanish young person , which had obtained the day before the pole position in front of its fellow-member Giancarlo Fisichella and both Ferrari of Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa . Both McLaren-Mercedes were qualified rather far: Kimi Räikkönen in the ninth place and Juan Pablo Montoya with the twelfth, confirming that the departure of Adrian Newey, the originator of the car, is very prejudicial with the team, though Ron Dennis says some. Alonso took an excellent departure, widening very quickly a decisive gap on its prosecutors. It thus could manage its stops with the stands quietly, leaving the head of the race only during some turns, while waiting for that its adversaries supply in their turn. The team Renault modified the strategy in the course of test, passing from a strategy with three stops with a strategy with two stops, to adapt to the conditions of the race and to allow their pilot to gain this victory which he hoped for so much. Giancarlo Fisichella had to give up to it second place with Michael Schumacher at the time of the ravitaillemants. It finishes nevertheless on the podium (3rd). Fernando Alonso could have carried out its first “hat-trick” (pole-position, victory, better turn in race), if the Brazilian young person Felipe Massa (4th) had not dispossessed it of the record of the turn by carrying out 1 ' 16" 648 with the 42e turn.
