Automobile Grand Prix of Germany
The automobile Grand Prix of Germany is a test of the championship of the world of Formule 1.
Organized for the first time in 1926, the Grand Prix of Germany appeared for the first time at the calendar of the championship of the world of Formula 1 in 1951, as of the second year of existence of the championship. It always appeared thereafter in the championship of the world, except for the seasons 1955 (test cancelled following the drama of the 24 hours of Mans occurred a few weeks earlier), 1960 (race reserved for the single-seaters of Formule 2) and 2007.
History
Until 1976, and if one excludes some incursions on the layouts of AVUS and Hockenheim, the GP Prix of Germany was always held on the northern loop of the Nurburgring ( Nordschleife celebrates it) a very selective and particularly dangerous circuit of more than 20 kilometers length. Considered to be unsuited to Formula 1 modern (before even the accident of Niki Lauda occurred at the time of the edition 1976, the Federation had decided to withdraw its homologation to him). From 1977 to 2006 (except a short return on the modern layout of Nurburgring in 1985), it is on the circuit of Hockenheim that the test was organized. On its side, Nurbugring accommodated a second test on the German ground (under the name GP of Europe and GP of Luxembourg) in 1984 then of 1995 to 2006.From 2007, it was decided that Germany would accommodate nothing any more but only one test each year, disputed in alternation with Hockenheim (even years) and with Nurburgring (odd years). Logically, that it is held in Hockenheim or Nurburgring, this test would have to receive the title of " Al Grand Prix; but following a dissension enters Automobilclub von Deutschland (organizing of the race of Hockenheim and exclusive holder of name " Al GP;) and Al Deutscher Automobilclub (organizing of the race of Nurburgring), the test of 2007 preserved the title of Grand Prix of Europe. The Grand Prix of Germany was thus absent from the calendar for the first time since 1960.
