Automobile Grand Prix of Europe

The Grand Prix of Europe is a test of the championship of the world of Formule 1.

History

By Grand Prix of Europe, the TRUSTED generally indicates a Grand Prix which disputes in a country accommodating a national Grand Prix already. Thus, name Grand Prix of Europe successively indicated the second British Grand Prix (in Brands Hatch in 1983 and 1985 then with Donington in 1993), the second Spanish Grand Prix (in Jerez in 1994 and 1997, and with Valence in 2008) and of second German Grand Prix (with the Nürburgring in 1985, in 1995 and 1996, then of 1999 with 2006).

In 2007, in spite of the behavior of only one Grand Prix in Germany (in Nürburgring), name GP of Europe remained at the expense of name GP of Germany. The Automobilclub von Deutschland (AvD), organizer of the disputed Grand Prix with Hockenheim (from now on only organized the even years) and owner of name GP of Germany indeed refused that this name is used by the Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobilclub (s.t.o.l), a concurrent federation which organizes the GP disputed with the Nürburgring the odd years.

In 2008, the GP of Europe will be held on the urban Circuit of Valence, a provisional circuit installed in the streets of Valence in Spain.

If name Grand Prix of Europe existed in an autonomous way as from the season 1983, it also indicated in an honorary way of other tests. For example, the inaugural test of the championship of the world, in 1950 with Silverstone, was officially called " Grand Prix of Great Britain and Europe". This practice remained until 1977.
