Qualifications
1st meeting
- arm wrestling between the stable Minardi and the TRUSTED turned short. Authorized by Australian justice to dispute the Grand Prix with cars not being to the standards 2005, Minardi thought of having gained the part. TRUSTED then held up the threat to exclude Australia from the calendar; Minardi, recently last under Australian house, finally agreed to put its vehicles in conformity with the payments 2005. Minardi took part, by making the mobile baffles , with the first meeting of qualification.
- Dramatic turn of events at the time of the first of the two meetings of qualifications. Following a strong downpour, Michael Schumacher is found at 24 seconds of Giancarlo Fisichella, better time of this meeting. Being ahead last line Michael changes engine before the race, which puts it in bottom of grid but with a new engine.
Roast departure
Race
The race was disturbed of entry, saturdays, by the bad weather which gave an unusual starting grid, with McLaren lost in the middle of the group and Ferrari of the world champion, Michael Schumacher, relegated in last line. The Italian stable exploited besides one of many subtleties of the new payment (to read Libération of the March 5th and 6th) by changing the engine of the car of Schumacher which did not have anything to gain to take part in the second meeting of qualification. A change of engine before the race costs ten places at the beginning, but like the German pilot, in any event, was condemned to the bottom of the grid… If it wishes it, Schumacher will be able to be presented in fifteen days in Malaysia with a fresh engine, since it did not finish the race. The sextuple world champion was indeed eliminated following a fixing with Nick Heidfeld (Williams-BMW), which tried to charm the eighth place to him. Alonso had difficulty in double Jacques Villeneuve since it was necessary ten eight turns for him before making speak the powder about his more powerful engine.
