the Authority of the financial markets has the role of applying the relative laws to the framing of the financial sector, in particular in the fields of the insurances, the transferable securities, the institutions of deposit - except the banks - and of the distribution of products and finance departments.

More precisely, the Authority must:

  • to lend assistance to the consumers of products and to the users of finance departments;

  • to take care that the financial institutions and the other speakers of the financial sector respect the prescribed standards of solvency and conforms to the obligations that the Law imposes to them;

  • to ensure the framing of the activities of distribution of products and finance departments;

  • to ensure the framing of the activities of purse and compensation, and that of the markets of transferable securities;

  • to take care of the installation of programs of protection and compensation for the consumers of products and the users of finance departments, and to manage the funds of compensation envisaged by the Law.

  • to make the evaluation to obtain the licenses in insurances and delivers those.

The MFA is resulting from the fusion of the Commissions of the transferable securities of Quebec (CVMQ), of the Office of finance departments (BSF), of the control of the insurance-deposit of Quebec (RADQ), of the bottom of compensation for the finance departments (FISF) and the General inspector of financial institutions (IGIF)

The MFA has several functions:

  • control the accuracy and the exhaustiveness of the information given to the public by the transmitting companies,
  • checks the regularity of the stock exchange transactions, and more generally all those on the transferable securities, proceeds to investigations in particular into the commission of possible infringements, such as the handling of markets or the behaviors of initiate

The MFA is located in the capital, the Ville of Quebec and its general president-director is Jean St-Froze.
