Authon-Ébéon is a common French, located in the department of the Charente-Maritime and the area Poitou-Charentes. Its inhabitants is called the authonais and authonaises .
Geography
Authon-Ébéon is located at the East of the department of the Charente-Maritime in the Canton of Saint-Hilaire-of-Villefranche far from the current road axes, 10 km of Matha, 11 km of Saint-Hilaire-with-Villefranche and 21 km of Cognac. It is bordering on the communes of Aujac, Bercloux, Prignac and Migron. It is geologically a fine limestone plate which dates from the Tithonien (in the past named stage Portlandien). It is a ground of groie.Its vineyard is located in name cognac, vintage of Fine Wood.
Authon-Ébéon is in the catchment area of the Charente. Authon is crossed by Dandelot which passes by the ditches of the castle. It will just join the Antenne affluent of the Charente downstream from Cognac.
History
Ébéon was along the Roman way Holy-Aulnay-Poitiers, from where the presence of the " lamp of Ébéon".Authon was the seat of a stronghold held by the family of Authon, of 1130 until in 1450. The mound castrale was with 100 meters of the current castle.
Seguin d' Authon, vasseau of the counts de Taillebourg, is Croisé in 1130 and Roland d' Authon is companion of Holy Land Saint-Louis. Seguin which dies in 1395 is archevèque Turns.
Jean d' Authon (1467-1527), is the chaplain and the official historiographer of the king Louis XII and Antoine (1466-1546) is corsair At the beginning of the XVIIe century, the barons d' Authon are hereditary seneshals of Saintonge.
In 1627 Jean d' Authon is killed in duel and its widow Judith de Nosan on sale puts the baronnie and the ground of Ébéon which is attached there. They are repurchased by his/her mother who bequeaths them to her grandson.
In 1651, during the Fronde Condé take the castle and captive fact Jean-Seguin d' Authon.
In 1791, Authon is plundered and set fire to and the northern wing of the castle disappears.
The communes of Authon and Ébéon were create in 1793, in the department of Charente-Lower which became Charente-Maritime in 1941. They belonged to the district of Saint-Jean-with Angély then of its district in 1801 to pass to that the Holy ones in 1926 and to return in that of Saint-Jean-with Angély in 1943. After having belonged to the canton of " Brisambourg" in 1793 they integrated the canton of Saint-Hilaire-with-Villefranche in 1801.
In 1972 Authon absorbed Ébéon to form the commune of Authon-Ébéon.
Administration
To the last legislative elections it gave 128 votes to Xavier the Russet-red one and 82 votes with Catherine Quéré the candidate PS who was elected.
It forms part with the nine other communes of the Canton of Saint-Hilaire-to-Villefranche and the commune of Écoyeux of the Communauté of communes of the canton of Saint-Hilaire-to-Villefranche.
Taxation
The taxation is of a rate of 11,97% for the tax from dwelling, 16,63% on the land frame, 54,30% on not built and 15% of professional tax, and as the community of communes takes on all four tax, respectively 2,50%,4,57%,10,99% and 3,24% that gives on the whole and before the department and the area are added to it, 14,47% for the tax of dwelling, 21,20% on the land frame, 65,29% on not built and 18,24% of professional tax (figures 2007).

Whereas Ébéon maintained its population, Authon started its decrease at the 19th century by losing 24% of its population. This fall continued at the 20th century and when Authon absorbed Ébéon they had nothing any more but half of their population two centuries front.The commune include/understand 145 credits with an unemployment rate of 12,7%.
The 145 credits having an employment are 81 men and 64 women of which 98 are paid and 47 nonpaid.
Economy

Roman vestiges
The " Fanal" * of Ebéon, known as " Pyramide" , is a Gallo-Roman vestige. Lamp or funerary pile it still forms a block of masonry 16 meters height and 6 meters diameter. According to a legend, it would be the work of fairies, three " dames" who built it in one night. They made use of a magic hammer which they returned one to the other through the airs. The Notre-Dame church of the Assumption is a church strengthened with curtain, covered way, crenels, bell-tower-keep and bretèche on flat bedside. Its construction was carried out in two stages, at the 12th century and the 15th century. It presents murals of the 19th century. It is classified Historic building since April 13rd, 1907. .
It was registered on April 27th, 1972 (frontages and roofs of the tower of the guards and main door of the manor) and was classified Historic building in 1992.
Its gardens surrounded by water are with the pre-inventory of the remarkable gardens. They comprise a medieval kitchen garden.
The mill of Guignebourg is located downstream.
