Autechre

Autechre is a British group of Electronic music based with Sheffield in England, working in the kind sometimes called Intelligent Dance Music . It was founded in 1991 by two friends, Rob Brown and Sean Booth.

Brown and Booth specified that the name Autechre can decide way which people prefer, rather pronouncing it to them-even like “ Ao-teak-er ”. The group is sometimes called “ ae ”.

Although their music preserves elements rhytmic, the complexity of the various structures directs it more towards listening than towards the dance. Their recent works are explicitly experimental and abstract. The reactions to their music are varied; it can seem chaotic and random at first sight, but listenings repeated there reveal a complex organization. Certain people find it cold and austere, while others perceive it sentimental and cordial.

The entirety of the discography of Autechre was published under the label Warp Records of which they are one of the pillars, almost since its creation.

Rob Brown and Sean Booth also recorded under various other pseudonyms, like Lego Feet (1991 - Skam label) and Dual Purpose (2001 - label 30Mil). They are also implied in the project Gescom. Autechre also helped to create the festival All Tomorrow' S Parties in 2000, the edition 2003 having led to the publication of double CD, Autechre curated All Tomorrow' S Parties 3.0 .

Thom Yorke, leader of Radiohead, quotes the name of Autechre as an influence in its electro turn starting from Kid has .

Music

Many are those which describe the music of Autechre as being cold and austere whereas others perceive a heat and a sentimentality emanating itself from the most cerebral pieces. Most of the music of Autechre this focuses on complex rates/rhythms, percussions involving and on a work of sequencing meticulous person. Often, the loops, very destructurée repeat and increment progressively piece; what makes it more alive, in perpetual evolution. Their last creations are more experimental, more abstract than their work of the beginning of the 90' S.

The reactions to their music are varied. Many of their pieces contain complex or chaotic rates/rhythms. One of the recurring elements of their music is the use of very small mixed and mixed sound extracts units which gives this fragmented and surgical side to the pieces.

Method

Autechre, influenced by the techno of the beginnings, uses many synthé analogical in its productions. The group uses also limp at rates/rhythms and of the samplers, as well as many software of sequencing, of mixing and programs enabling them to control their synthés. Autechre used environments of musical programming like Max/MSP, SuperCollider and Kyma, which enabled them to create their personal programs. The majority of this software are now untraceable.

In 2005, for their performances live, they use limp at rate/rhythm Elektron as well as a synthetizer called Monomachine. Autechre stressed that way of doing of the music implies the use of novel methods on old equipment, their sounds come more combination of the tools and techniques, that simple use of a machine alone . The other machines which the group regularly quoted in its interviews are the Roland TR-606, the Roland MC-202 and synthé virtual the Northern Lead. In answer to the comments on their “single sound”, Autechre explains why there is an extraordinary number of tools available for the type-setters, in particular in the electronic music, and that consequently it is incomprehensible that certain groups sound same ways as others.
