Austrian Service abroad

Association for the Austrian Service abroad according to the law (§12b) concerning the civil service is an initiative with nonlucrative goal, founded in 1998 by Andreas Maislinger, whose objective is to find abroad places for the Austrians carrying out their service. The one 9 months duration civil service is then replaced by a 12 months service near an association partner abroad. There are several conditions for that which projects to make its Service abroad.

The Service abroad is an alternative to the military service, which the Austrian République gives to the young citizens, and whose sphere of activities are located especially in the social domain.

Association for the Services abroad offers an alternative to the civil service in the following fields:

Austrian Service of the Memory (Österreichischer Gedenkdienst)

Austrian Service of Peace (Österreichischer Friedensdienst)

The expression Gedenkdienst (French: Service of the Memory ) was created by Andreas Maislinger, which, in 1992, founded an association bearing this name.

2005 Dr. Andreas Daniel Matt: it carried out its civil service with Lahore (Pakistan), where it worked with association S.O.S Villages of Children

2006 Martin Wallner: it has carries out its Service of the Memory in the Center of the Jewish Studies with Shanghai.

2007 Daniel James Schuster: it has carries out its Service of the Memory to the museum Yad Vashem with Jerusalem in Israel.

The Austrian Price for the Memory of the Holocaust (PAMH)

Since November 2006 Association once decrees the PAMH per annum with a person who supports in particular the Service of the Memory.
