Australian League Rugby

The Australian Rugby League ( ARL ) is the authority managing the Rugby with XIII in Australia. The office of the ARL includes/understands three members of the New South Wales Rugby League, three members of the Queensland Rugby League and a president.

History

The Australian Rugby League Board off Control (which will become later Australian Rugby League) was created in December 1924, to manage the national team. Before this creation, the Kangourous were managed by New South Wales Rugby League and Queensland Rugby League. It is thus as from 1924, that the national team will cover the colors green and gold. Indeed before this date, the colors of the Kangaroos were those of Queensland and the Wales News of the South, i.e. maroon and blue.

Until 1984, the ARL was directed by New South Wales Rugby League, but the queenslanders thought that the NSWRL used its capacity with the detriment of theirs.

In 1995, with the expansion of the championship, the ARL takes the control of Windfield Cup, managed until by the NSWRL.

In 1997, Rupert Murdoch founds a dissenting championship with that of the ARL, the Super League. Two competitions coexist in Australia.

In 1998, an agreement between the ARL and the Super League is found, a new championship is created, the National Rugby League.

Today, the ARL is responsible for the State off Origin, the match City vs Country and for the national team.
