Aurum Solis

LOrdo Aurum Solis (" however of the soleil") is a founded initiatory order in 1897 in England by George Stanton and Charles Kingold, members of the Societas Rotae Fulgentis (" Company of the Ardente" Wheel;), with an aim of " to restore the Wisdom of the Magi and to proclaim the Secrecies of Alchimistes" again;. Though it was often brought closer to the hermetic Ordre of the gilded Paddle (Dawn Golden delicious), on the basis of element certain of theory and practice which are réminiscents, the spiritual chalk-lining of Aurum Solis is nevertheless completely distinct: while the Gilded Paddle takes part of the current Rosicrucian brotherhood, Aurum Solis asserts Tradition Ogdoadique, a specific current within the Tradition Esotérique Occidentale (cf below). The fundamental emblems of the Ogdoadique Tradition are the Star with Eight Rays of Regeneration and the Quintuple Structure of the House of the Sacrifice. The initiatory structure of Aurum Solis is in the same way philosophically and spiritually distinct (cf below). Lastly, though Aurum Solis integrates in its lesson the whole of the basic elements of the Western esotericism (hermetic Qabbale, Magie énochienne, Astrologie, Alchimie, tarot…), its way of proceeding to it is appreciably different from that of other groups esoteric, which gives to its lesson a coloring propre.
With the difference of the Gilded Paddle, which made speak about it throughout its history, Aurum Solis remained so to speak completely unknown general public until in the years 1970, time to which Vivian Godfrey and Leon Barcynski, two followers of Aurum Solis better known under their pen names Melita Denning and Osborne Philips, published the
Magical Philosophy , a monumental work in five volumes detailing the basic elements of theory and practice of Ordre.
Since June 2003, the Large Master of Aurum Solis is Jean-Louis de Biasi. At present (January 2007), the Order has Houses (traditional denomination of the " loges" within Aurum Solis) in nine countries distributed out of three continents.

Initiatory structure of Aurum Solis

The fundamental initiatory structure of Aurum Solis is composed of three degrees, named " Demeures":
1. Neophytos , or " Apprentice of Large Œuvre"
2. Servitor , or " Serving as the Sacrée" Flame;
3. Adeptus minor , or " Priest of Gnose"

The progression and the sequence of these three degrees are supposed to conform to the natural development of psyché, which development within the lesson of Aurum Solis is symbolized and activated by the diagram of the House of the Sacrifice. This initiatory structure presents many correspondences with Qabbale and alchemy. It will be noted moreover that the Third Residence (Adeptat) is not fully carried out by initiation, but well by the later spiritual efforts of the follower. The Rite of Ratification, by which the Adeptus minor (" follower mineur") Adeptus Plenus (" becomes ; Follower complet"), sanctions these personal efforts of the Follower, and allows him to approach certain major aspects of the Tradition. In oneself, this rite thus does not constitute so much an initiation with a " fourth degré" that a recognition occults achievement of the troisième.

From a practical point of view, each one of these three degrees is centered on an aspect of the Tradition:
- The First Residence primarily qabbalistic, is anchored in the esotericism judéo-chrétien
- The Second Residence is based on hermetism such as it was transmitted by the Greek initiates of Renaissance
- The Third Residence begin with the Egyptian system resulting from the end of the Egyptian period, and continues in other studies such as the énochien.
