Aurelio Lampredi
Aurelio Lampredi (June 16th, 1917 with Leghorn - June 1st, 1989 in Leghorn) is an engineer Italian motor mechanic in car and aviation .
Career
He begins his career at Piaggio, the manufacturer of mythical the Vespa, but is very quickly directed worms of larger engines. He works then at Isotta-Fraschini before the Second world war, then joined Reggiane to draw engines of plane there.The reputation of Lampredi leads it at Ferrari, where, in 1946, it draws an engine 4.5 L V12 (the Moteur Ferrari Lampredi) which will be used for the first time in the Années 1950 on the 257S. Lampredi turns over to Isotta-Fraschini in March 1947 but returns to Ferrari at the beginning 1948. The atmospheric engines of Lampredi gradually will replace V12 of Gioachino Colombo which were used until there. In particular after the failure of the compressor engine of Colombo in Formula 1.
Lampredi definitively ceases its collaboration with Ferrari in 1955 when Ferrari buys the Lancia 'S racing TEAM and sticks the service of the famous motor mechanic Vittorio Jano, before at Alfa Romeo. Although the engines of Lampredi are still used on the cars of the Ferrari range, V6 and V8 de Jano quickly replace large V12 de Lampredi on the models of competition.
After Ferrari, Lampredi joined FIAT, where it supervises division motorization until in 1977. It is at FIAT that it draws the camshaft engines double and FIAT SOHC which will be used on cars FIAT during more than 32 years. He is then plant manager of stable FIAT Abarth of 1973 with 1982.
