The Aure and Campan is a French ovine race.
Origin
It is originating in the Eastern valleys of the Hautes-Pyrénées. It comes from the old crossing of the race of the central Pyrenees with merinos of Spain. The herd book goes back to 1975. It represents approximately 14.000 registered individuals, including 1600 females and 200 males.
Morphology
It has fine and a white curly wool fleece. Only the male carries rolled up horns.Elle measurement 70 cm with the garrot for 50 kg. The ram measures 75 cm for 75 kg.
Aptitudes
It is a race bouchère. The wool aptitude is not exploited any more. It produces lambs of autumn and winter, with the return of mountain pasture.Elle is well adapted to walk and the outdoor in mountain. The prolificity is of 1,2 lambs per ewe and per annum.
