Aulu-Cold
Aulu-Cold (in Latin Aulus Gellius ) is a grammairien and Roman compiler (v. 115 - 120 - 180).
Rich person scholar, it carries out in his youth, as it should be, a stay with Athens, where it follows course and conferences of famous Masters of which Favorinus of Arles and Fronton. Of its notes (summarized works, memories of course, personal research,…) time are born Nights attics ( Noctes Atticæ , entitled thus because it had composed this work in Athens during the evenings of winter), work eclectic and imposing (20 books, whose eighth), where it approaches shovel-mixes Littérature, Art S, Philosophie, Histoire, Droit, Géométrie, Médecine and Natural science, Météorologie is lost. Thanks to the quotations which constellate the collection, we have fragments of writers whose works are lost today. It is a mine of information of first order on the Antiquité. It as should be noted as the wine returns in many chapters: Vinu edormiant , Vinum exoticum , Vinum mulieribus Romanis AD quid interdictum? , etc
It remained a long time in Athens, noting all that the chance of its readings inspired to him, without precise plan, like a friendly conversation. It belongs to the writers of the empire under the dynasty of Antonins, period of decline of the Latin letters (first century-2nd century).
