Aulnoye-Aymeries

Aulnoye-Aymeries is a common French, located in the department of the Northern (59) and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

Its inhabitants is called Aulnésiens.

Geography

Aulnoye-Aymeries is located at the South of an area called Bassin of the Sambre. The French city most important of this basin is Maubeuge located at 18 km in the North-East of Aulnoye-Aymeries.

The South of the basin of Sambre is located itself in the Avesnois and Aulnoye-Aymeries belongs to the Regional natural park of Avesnois

Aulnoye-Aymeries is a relatively important city located in the basin of Sambre. What the inhabitants name there channel is actually Sambre channeled .

History

With the the Middle Ages, Aulnoye and Aymeries were two villages located side by side. With the passing of years, the two villages gathered to become Aulnoye-Aymeries. Aulnoye is due its name to the fact that there was many Aulne S (species of tree) in the area

Aymeries which was with the accesses of the channel and the fields saw its Château destroys during the French revolution. Today one finds there farms and fields, which each year disappear under the very important Inondation S.

Since the creation of the Barrage of the Val Jolly builds on a Affluent of the Sambre to about thirty kilometers upstream (Base of Leisures), the floods are however much fewer (approximately every 7 years) and less important.

Aulnoye-Aymeries has metallurgical industries , of which the important factory of construction of metal tubes, Vallourec (metallurgical processing industry).

Aulnoye-Aymeries has a renovated swimming pool become nautical Center, the Watering place; a Theater, the room Léo-Shoed; a college, the college Felix LED MARLE inaugurated in September 2004 and a technical school, a music school and of many association S.
