Aulerques cénomans
The Cénomans or Aulerques Cénomans are one of the Gallic Peuples more important, in the 3rd Lyons one. They belonged to the confederation of the Aulerques and occupied the country which formed the Eastern Maine later. They remained in what will become later the the Sarthe. Their capital was Sindinum or Cenomani , today Mans coming from Civitas Cénomanorum , literally “Quoted of Cénomans” then, “Concealment mans”.
About fourth century BC, most of Cénomans made an invasion of Italy, where they moved the Euganei, and were established in the area of the median Po, between the Adige and the Adda, in the territory of Brescia and Verona.
They mobilized nearly 5.000 men with Alésia according to César.
