Aulerques Éburovices

The Aulerques Éburovices are a Gallic people. The name eburovice contains the root eburo , “yew”. They resided in current the Département of the Eure.

Their principal sanctuary was on the plate, on the site occupied currently by the village of the Old-Évreux . At the 3rd century, this city (Vicus) named Gisacum had Roman Thermes, temples, a forum and a Théâtre. Towards the end of IIIe century, the city was deserted with the profit from Mediolanum Aulercorum located at a few kilometers on the river the the Eure and become today Évreux.
