Augustus Asplet the Large one
Augustus Asplet the Large (or Augustus Aspley the Large ), born with Saint-Hélier the April 14th 1840 and dead the December 3rd 1877, was a Poète Jersey and swear-dispenser of justice of the royal Court of Jersey.
Biography
A.A. The Large one was high with Saint-Pierre. One of the first pupils of the Victoria College founded in 1851, it entered an office of lawyer, but leaves his studies of right to go to work in the farm of his/her grandfather with Saint-Pierre. In 1865, it is elected secretary of the agricultural and horticultural royal Company of Jersey. In 1873, the parishioners of Saint-Pierre elect it with the head of the municipality as a constable.In 1873, it is among the founders of the Jersey Company of which he will become the first secretary. It began a Dictionnaire, unfinished, language Jersey E which was used as a basis for the Glossaire of the Jersey Patois published by the Jersey Company in 1924.
Its poetries, signed A.A.L.G. , in Jersey, French and English appeared in the newspapers and the almanacs of Jersey and Guernesey. Its style was rather lyric.
The Large one published during eight years a small annual review of poetry into Jersey and Guernesiais and two volumes of poetry in English Poems for Home and Fireside (London, 1863) and Poems (London, 1868), as well as a history of the Château of Mount-Pride of Jersey: Mount Castle Pride: Its History and Ruins .
In 1875, the voters of the island elected it swear-dispenser of justice. He died at the 37 years age in 1877.
