Augusto Roa Bastos (born the June 13rd 1917 with Iturbe with the Paraguay - died the April 26th 2005) was a Paraguayan writer 20th century.

Biography

Augusto Roa Bastos took part in the Guerre of Chaco (1932 - 1935) between the Paraguay and the Bolivia.

Journalist, it wrote poems, tales and novels. He exiled himself in Argentine in 1947 for political reasons and lived forty years in exile, the dictator Alfredo Stroessner being opposed to his return.

Augusto Roa Bastos taught in France, with Toulouse, the literature and the language Guarani (official language in Paraguay). Its work was devoted by the Prix Cervantes in 1989.
