Augustin de Drucourt
Augustin Boschenry , knight of Drucourt was born with Drucourt in the the Eure in 1703 and died in the Havre in 1762.
Young person wire of a noble Norman family, it joined in 1719 the guards of the navy in garrison with Brest. It had a progession of regular career because of its taste for work well done. He became captain in 1751.
In October 1746, then on board the Mars , French ship bringing of the provisioning of Acadie, it was made prisoner by the British. Its captivity lasted approximately a year. It turned over then to France. It was made knight of the Ordre of Saint-Louis in 1749 and was named at an important administrative station with Brest, station which it preserved a few years before obtaining the post of governor of the Royal Island (today the island of Cape-Breton the) to the Canada. Drucourt arrived at Louisbourg on August 15th 1754 in company of his wife Marie-Anne Aubert de Courserac.
Mrs. de Drucourt, equipped with a strong personality, was more than the woman of the governor, it drew itself with the gun during the seat and brought her assistance to all the people who needed some. She made moreover much to give gloss to the house of the governor in cold the, dull one and wet Louisbourg of the time.
In 1758, during the seat of Louisbourg by the British Boscawen, and against the opinion of its officers little willing to expose their ships to the fire of the British while remaining in the port, Ducour gave the order to the fleet to remain with quay. Drucour could not however force its captains to follow the example of Vauquelin and to turn the enormous firepower of their boats against the British batteries, although such an action had been able to make the difference and to make it possible to gain the seat.
To the council of war of July 26th, some officers were favorable to a fast rendering, others wished the continuation of the defense of the city including in the event of attack. In front of the British requirements, Drucour inclined with a continuation of the engagements, but at the request of the civil population of Louisbourg, it accepted the terms of the agreement and capitulated.
