Augustin Mouchot

Augustin Mouchot (born the April 7th 1823 with Semur-in-Auxois and deceased the October 4th 1912 with Paris) was a Engineer French which worked on the solar energy.

Biography

He is professor with the Lycée of Tours and starts to be interested in solar energy in 1860 and in 1873, a subsidy of the General advice of Tours enables him to build a Solar furnace of 4 m ² which he presents to the Academy of Science in October 1875.

In 1877, a subsidy of the General advice of Algiers enables him to build on the same principle a " large apparatus of 20 m ² " who receives a Gold medal with the World Fair of 1878.

In August 1882, at the time of the Festival of the French Union of youth, Abel Pifre uses a solar receiver of Auguste Mouchot to actuate a Steam engine which allowing him to draw a Journal.
