Augustin Laurent

Augustin Laurent (born the September 9th 1896 with Wahagnies, deceased on October 1st 1990 with Lille) is a politician French.

Biography

Old minor basic during four years, it adheres to SFIO in 1912. In 1914, at the beginning of the First World War, it engages as of its 18 years and combat for forty six months on the face. To the Congrès of Turns of 1920 it is opposed to adhesion with the Third International. Located by the leaders of the federation of the Northern of the socialist party, it occupies, starting from 1925, the post of administrative secretary of the latter. Following the death of Roger Salengro, he becomes the assistant general secretary in 1936 about it. In 1931 it is elected general adviser, then Député of the North of the III {{E}} in 1936. At the beginning of the occupation of the Second world war, it becomes resistant to the call of Jean-Baptiste Lebas. It cofonde two clandestine newspapers ( the Free man in 1940, become IVe Republic in 1941; and North-Morning in 1943). In 1942 member of the political committee of Release-South , it becomes, after the arrest of Eugene Thomas, the person in charge of the network the France with the Combat . In 1943, it chairs the Departmental committee of Release of the Northern .

He becomes Minister for the Stations and Télécommunication of the provisional government of the Général de Gaulle (of September 1944 to June 1945, date on which he resigns following an surgical operation). He will be appointed IV {{E}} French République until in 1951. In the 3rd government of Leon Blum, he is successively minister of state (16 with the December 23rd 1946), then Minister of France of overseas (December 23rd, 1946 to the January 22nd 1947) to replace Marius Moutet.

First secretary of the socialist federation of the North of 1945 with 1963, near to Guy Mollet, it exerts a considerable influence in the congresses of his party. He gives up the national responsibilities to devote himself to his area. He is president of the General advice of 1946 with 1967, replaced by Albert Denvers. He becomes mayor of Lille of 1955 with 1973 where he is replaced by Pierre Mauroy, his assistant. He is the first president of the urban community of Lille of 1969 with 1971; he is then replaced by Arthur Notebart.

He will die in his apartment close to the Beffroi of Lille the 1er  October 1990.
