Augustin Diamacoune Senghor

The abbot Augustin Diamacoune Senghor was leading a independence of the Casamance, born the April 4th 1928 with Senghalène, to 40 km in the west of Ziguinchor (Senegal) and deceased to the military hospital of the Valley-of-Grace to Paris (France) the January 13rd 2007.

He was director of the Saint-Louis seminar of Ziguinchor of 1972 to 1975, and taught the African literature and civic education with the college Saint-Charles Lwanga. Augustin Diamacoune Senghor directed the Mouvement of the democratic forces of Casamance (MFDC) of December 1982, dates from the release of the fight of this movement for the independence of Casamance, until his death.

He was imprisoned twice between 1982 and 1987 and 1990 and 1991 for his political activities.

It is him which signed in the name of the Movement of the democratic forces of Casamance (MFDC) all the peace agreements with the central capacity of Dakar of which the agreement of the December 30th 2004 with the Senegalese president Abdoulaye Wade, via her Minister of Interior Department recently named, Ousmane Ngom.

Since the signature of this agreement, Casamance had known one period of calm, only disturbed by some sporadic attacks. But the health of being degraded the Diamacoune abbot, of the power struggles within the MFDC had appeared, of the factions taking the weapons in April 2006, causing the death of tens of people.
