Auguste de Jaba
Auguste Zaba (1801-1894), August Kościesza- Żaba in Polish, Жаба in Russian, francized in Jaba or of Jaba to indicate its noble origins, is one of the large orientalists of the 19th century. Its work marks the rise of the knowledge of the Kurdish language in Europe. Wire of the door standard of hussard Dominique Zaba, lord of Swierzno, Voîvodie de Polock and of Anna Holownia, it are born with Vilnius in Lithuania the August 15th 1801. It follows a beautiful diplomatic career to the service of the Russia and becomes its general consul with Erzéroum. It finishes its life with Smyrna, town of origin of his second wife Helene Giraud, where it dies on January 3rd, 1894. Of its second marriage, it had had a Marie girl, wife of the baron Léopold de Testa.
He is the brother of Napoleon Felix Żaba.
Its beautiful collection of Eastern manuscripts is divided today between the British Museum with London and the Bibliothèque Saltykov-Chtchedrine with Saint-Petersbourg.
