Auguste de Berthois
The baron Auguste Marie of Berthois is a French soldier born with Calais (Pas-de-Calais) the May 17th 1787 and died in Paris the February 15th 1870.
Biography
Wire of a colonel of the genious, it was accepted, in 1804, with the Polytechnic school, 13th on 134. Lieutenant of the genious, the 1809, it joined the large general headquarter of the Emperor with Vienna, and was immediately charged to recognize the Vallée of Drave and some positions on the border of Austria, towards the Italy and the Turkey; in 1810, it joined in Spain the brigade of seat, intended to act as Aragon, made with the 3rd body, the seats of Mequinenza, Sagonte and Valence, under the marshal Suchet, and was put at the order of the army for its beautiful control; it was it still, in 1812, after the Bataille of Gastalla and the recognition of Alicante.In 1813, it joined the 6th body in Germany, and later the large general headquarter, and did not leave any more the Emperor until his abdication. In this court space of time, it contributed to work of defense of Dresden and Mainz and attended nineteen battles or combat.
Appointed captain in Spain, the July 31st 1811, and major, after the Battle of Leipzig, it was proposed for the cross of Officer since the Bataille of Dresden. Knight of Saint-Louis, the September 5th 1814, it followed the Duc of Berry to the border, was employed with work of defense of Paris under the general Haxo, in May 1815.
Put of availability by the Bourbon S, sent in the fortified towns of North, it there remained eleven years and was named lieutenant-colonel, in 1828, and colonel in March 1831. It was then employed again with work of defense of Paris, attended the Siège of Antwerp, where it accepted the cross of commander; was promoted with the rank of Brigadier, in October 1838, and was named member of the committee of the fortifications, and general inspector of the genious.
It sat several times at the legislative Chambre.
