Wire naturalness of Gaëtan Vestris and Marie Allard, Marie-Jean-Augustin Vestris , known as Auguste Vestris and called Vestr' Allard , is a Danse ur French born with Paris the March 27th 1760 and died in Paris the December 5th 1842.
Formed by his father, it begins with the Opéra from Paris in 1772 and is engaged as soloist in the Ballet in 1776. Its brilliant career proceeds mainly in Paris, but it also occurs with Lyon, Montpellier and Bordeaux, like with the King' S Theater of London. It is Pierre Gardel which will offer its more beautiful roles to him, in particular in Psyché , Télémaque in the island of Calypso and Dansomanie .
It withdraws in 1816 to be devoted to the teaching of the dance to the Opera of Paris, and to become one of the most famous professors of all times.
Inventor of a multitude new steps, Auguste Vestris is among those which, the first, knew to integrate the old dance of the 18th century “ground into ground”, brilliante and rapid, with the new steps of great rise (great allegro) caused by the musical projections in the time, of which those of Beethoven. Among its pupils, the Franco-Danish choreographer Auguste Bournonville (1805-1879). This last devotes several extremely interesting and detailed pages to him in its memories My Theater Life (My life with the theater), published in English London in 1968. Act I of the ballet of Bournonville the Academy , still danced nowadays, accurately reproduced a lesson given by Vestris to the Opera of Paris in 1820, and still remains, for our generation, of an extreme technical requirement.
Called “the god of the dance”, Auguste Vestris marked the spirits and the history of the dance by his interpretation of the Gavotte in 1785. Since, this passage of the Op3era Comique of Grétry, Panurge in the island of the lanterns , is known under the name of Gavotte de Vestris.
