Auguste Maquet
Auguste Maquet (born with Paris in 1813, dead the Holy-Mesme January 8th 1888 with ) is a writer French.
Biography
Auguste Maquet was born in 1813. He was a brilliant pupil of the Lycée Charlemagne where at eighteen years he became a very noticed temporary professor. He intended himself for teaching, but thorough by an irresistible vocation towards the independent literature, he gave up the University. Some extremely appreciated poetries, some news written in the newspapers reflect it in connection with the young writers of this fertile time.Extremely dependant with Théophile Gautier, it composed some tests with Gerard de Nerval and it is by the latter that it became acquainted with Alexandre Dumas in December 1838. Then this famous collaboration started which put in a few years Auguste Maquet on the way of the fame.
Involved in the financial disaster of his collaborator, Auguste Maquet initially attacked Dumas in justice for unpaid, and then to recover his royalties on works which he had written in collaboration with Dumas. He was explained some at the time of the audiences of the January 20th and 21st 1858.
He was regarded as a simple creditor, and with the help of the sum of 145.200 F payable in eleven years, he lost the fruit of an amazing work while renonçant to put its name beside that of Alexandre Dumas on all the books which they had written together.
It was during more than twelve years chair Société of the authors and dramatic type-setters.
Officer of the Legion of honor since 1861, it died on January 8th, 1888 in his castle of Holy-Mesme, gained, as it said it merrily, with his only feather. He is buried with the Cimetière of the Father-Lachaise to Paris.
Collaborator simple Maquet or “negro”?
The work of Auguste Maquet consisted in writing a first copy starting from its historical knowledge. Then this one was rewritten by Alexandre Dumas who added his romantic style. However certain events showed that certain parts were taken again without any modification on behalf of Dumas.
Letter of Matharel de Fiennes with Auguste Maquet
Paris, on January 22nd, 1858
My dear Maquet,
Two lines to say to you that I have just read the report of your lawsuit and that my testimony can rectify an error. In the 1849 - I then to specify the date - Century published the Viscount of Bragelonne . Perrée was absent and I replaced it. One informs me at six o'clock in the evening that the serial which one had gone to seek in Saint-Germain, at Alexandre Dumas, was lost. One needed for the Century its serial, the serial is in its charter. The two authors were known to me, one lived in Saint-Germain, the other in Paris. I went to find that which was easiest to join. You will sit down at table. There you eûtes kindness to leave your dinner and you settled in the cabinet of direction. I still see you with work. You wrote between a cup of bubble and wine glass of Bordeaux which you held of the munificence of the Century. From seven hours at midnight, the layers followed one another, I passed them from fifteen minutes in fifteen minutes to the type-setters. At one o'clock in the morning, the newspaper was drawn with its Bragelonne.
The following day one brought the serial of Saint-Germain to me who had been found on the road. Between the Maquet text and the text of Dumas there was about thirty words which were not absolutely the same ones, on 500 lines which composed the feuilleton.
Here is the truth. Made EC declaration what you voudrez.
