Auguste-Louis Loubatières

Auguste-Louis Loubatières , born the December 28th 1912 and dead the January 8th 1977, is a doctor endocrinologist French. He took part in the development of the drugs Antidiabétique S of the type Sulfamidé.

The discovery of antidiabetic the oral examinations goes back to second half of the 19th century. The hypoglycémiant effect of certain sulphamides antibactériens is shown in 1942 by Marcel Janbon with Montpellier and is proven in experiments by Auguste Loubatières.

It is in 1942, in Montpellier, that Janbon and its team discover the hypoglycémiants effects of a sulphonamide. Loubatières shows then the need for the presence of a Pancréas so that these effects are exerted.

Auguste Loubatières is elected free member of the Academy of Science in 1967. The college of Agde was renamed Lycée Auguste Loubatières in the honor of its former student.
