August 15th in Outremeuse

The August XV in Free République of Outremeuse is a religious holiday and popular which proceeds with Liege over 3 days.

Nun because one there known as the mass in Walloon and the procession celebrates the Assomption there.

It is also very popular, because it attracts much Inhabitant of Li2ege as well as foreign tourists who come to attend with the mass, spectacles of Marionnette S with the museum Tchantchès, the folk procession and, these last years, with a concert organized on the Delcour place.

The festivities begin with the exit from the Bouquet, structure of approximately 50Kg, measuring 7m top and furnished with approximately: 3000 silk flowers.

The starting point of the procession is with the church St Nicolas-Outremeuse, where is preserved the Black Virgin (dating from the 16th century) who left at the time of the procession. Throughout the course, the many faithful ones deposit bouquets of flower on the support transporting the statue. The Virgin is carried by 6 scouts of the unit Notre-Dame d' Outremeuse.

The festivities finish on August 16th by the ceremony of burial of Matî Ohè (Mathieu the bone, as a Walloon). The ceremony represents the funeral and the incineration of a bone, symbolizing the remainders of the festivities.

The characteristic most characteristic of this festival is of drinking a bay alcohol of Génévrier called Peket , a tradition which goes up with last the Walloon.
